TL;DR
These 13free practice questions for the Microsoft AB-330 exam (Implementing AI-Powered Supply Chain Operations with Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management) are grouped into one scenario per exam domain. Each answer explains the correct option and why every distractor fails. The exam is in beta, scored later, and Microsoft's own practice assessment is not available yet.
Beta notice, checked 2026-10-26. Microsoft labels both the AB-330 exam and the Supply Chain Management AI Consultant Associate credential as beta. The passing score is 700, and beta exams are not scored immediately because Microsoft is gathering data on question quality. These questions are original and are not taken from the exam.
How These Scenarios Are Built
Real exam items for this credential are drawn from the six process areas in Microsoft's AB-330 study guide: source to pay (30-35%), inventory to deliver (20-25%), order to cash (20-25%), design to retire (5-10%), forecast to plan (1-5%) and plan to produce (1-5%). We gave each area one fictional company and a few questions about it, with more questions where the weight is higher.
Every answer is grounded in a Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management documentation page listed at the bottom of this post. Read the story first, decide, then open the explanation. Cover the letters of the wrong options when you review and try to state the failure in your own words.
| Distractor pattern | Where it appears | Check to run on every option |
|---|---|---|
| Right feature, wrong scope | Scenarios 1, 3 and 4 | Does this option cover exactly the items and level in the story, or more or less? |
| Adjacent object in the same area | Scenarios 1, 2 and 3 | Which object owns this behavior: the template, the directive, the type, or the engine option? |
| Placement or direction reversed | Scenarios 2 and 6 | Above or below, before or after: which side does the documented rule put it on? |
| Neighboring setting borrowed | Scenarios 1, 2 and 4 | Is this behavior really from this setting, or from a similar one beside it? |
| Method matched to the wrong item type | Scenario 3 | Is the item stocked or built to order, and does capacity matter? |
| Half-applied arithmetic | Scenario 5 | Did I apply the whole rule, or stop at the first subtraction? |
The study plan that pairs with these patterns is in the AB-330 study guide.
Scenario 1: Harbor & Pine Foods Buys Packaging
Domain: Source to pay (30-35%)
Harbor & Pine Foods packs frozen meals. It buys corrugated cartons, labels and pallet-repair services, and the procurement lead wants a negotiated annual arrangement with whichever vendor wins competitive bids. Buyers should then release purchase orders against that arrangement all year.
Question 1: Commitment type for a category budget
Buyers will release many purchase orders over the year against a commitment to spend a fixed currency amount across any products in the Packaging procurement category. Which purchase agreement commitment type fits?
- A. Product quantity commitment
- B. Product category value commitment
- C. Value commitment
- D. Product value commitment
Answer: B
A product category value commitment is a specific currency amount in a procurement category, and purchase orders for any product in that category count toward it.
- A. This commits to a specific quantity of one product, so it cannot be fulfilled by a spread of products in a category.
- B. Correct: the commitment is an amount of money scoped to the Packaging procurement category.
- C. A value commitment covers any product in any category, which is broader than the requirement and would let unrelated purchases consume the commitment.
- D. This is a currency amount for one specific product, so purchases of other packaging products would not count.
Pattern: Right feature, wrong scope
Question 2: RFQ purchase type for an agreement
Before negotiating, the lead sends a request for quotation to three vendors. Accepting the winning bid must produce a purchase agreement valid for twelve months, not a single purchase order. What should the buyer set when creating the RFQ case?
- A. The purchase type Purchase agreement, with the agreement date range
- B. The default purchase type Purchase order, converting the result after acceptance
- C. The purchase type Purchase requisition
- D. A solicitation type named for agreements
Answer: A
The RFQ purchase type decides what an accepted bid generates. With the Purchase agreement type, you select the date range and the person who manages the agreement, and accepting a bid creates a purchase agreement.
- A. Correct: this type is designed for agreements to buy a quantity or value of product over time, and accepting a bid generates the agreement.
- B. With the Purchase order type, accepting a bid generates a purchase order, so the twelve-month requirement is not met without extra manual work.
- C. This type is assigned automatically when an RFQ is created from a purchase requisition. Selecting it manually produces an error.
- D. The solicitation type determines the scoring criteria used for replies. It does not control which document an accepted bid creates.
Pattern: Adjacent object in the same area
Question 3: Fixed price and a changed order line
The agreement includes a product quantity commitment for cartons with the Price and discount is fixed policy turned on. A buyer changes the unit price on a purchase order line created from that commitment so that it differs from the commitment price. What happens?
- A. The system blocks the line from saving until the price is restored
- B. The agreement is automatically reconfirmed at the new price
- C. The link to the commitment is broken, so the line no longer counts toward fulfillment
- D. The line still counts toward fulfillment and a warning is logged
Answer: C
When the price is fixed and an order line price is changed, the link between the line and the commitment is broken, and an unlinked line does not contribute to fulfilling the commitment.
- A. Blocking behavior belongs to the Max is enforced policy, which caps total quantity or amount across order lines. It does not stop a price edit.
- B. Confirming an agreement stores a version in history when someone confirms it. Editing an order line never reconfirms the agreement.
- C. Correct: the price must match for the link to hold, and a broken link means no contribution to fulfillment.
- D. Messages are tied to the minimum and maximum release amount settings. The fixed-price policy breaks the link instead, and a broken link stops counting.

Scenario 2: Fjord Beverages Opens a Batch-Tracked Warehouse
Domain: Inventory to deliver (20-25%)
Fjord Beverages runs a new warehouse with warehouse management processes enabled for drinks that are batch tracked and carry expiry dates. E-commerce orders ship from a dedicated forward pick area, and food safety wants failed inbound inspections quarantined automatically.
Question 4: Batch dimension in the reservation hierarchy
Fjord needs first expiry first out, batch disposition codes, and a rule that pickers cannot pick a different batch from the one the system instructs. Where should the Batch number dimension sit in the reservation hierarchy?
- A. Below Location, with Allow reservation on demand order selected for the batch level
- B. Below Location, with the batch entered manually on every sales order line
- C. Below Location, so pickers choose the best batch in the bin
- D. Above Location
Answer: D
Dimensions above location are strict picking requirements that workers cannot change, and the process-industry batch features such as FEFO, same-batch reservation and batch disposition codes require the batch dimension above location.
- A. The flexible policy lets order processors reserve a specific batch on a batch-below hierarchy, but the full set of batch features depends on batch being above location.
- B. Microsoft advises against entering dimensions below location on order lines when you expect work to be created, because warehouse management then cannot create the work.
- C. For dimensions below location, the system and the workers determine the value. That is the opposite of the strict control Fjord asked for.
- D. Correct: the batch is fixed before work is created and workers must pick it, and the batch features Fjord needs are supported.
Pattern: Placement or direction reversed
Question 5: Steering pick locations by order origin
E-commerce sales orders must be picked from a dedicated forward area, while other channels pick from bulk. Which setup object steers the pick locations based on where the order came from?
- A. A wave template
- B. A location directive for sales orders with a query on the order origin
- C. A work template
- D. A work class
Answer: B
Location directives are the rules that find pick and put locations for inventory movement, and a directive query can restrict when it applies, for example when e-commerce is the origin of a sales order.
- A. Wave templates define how a wave is executed and when waves are created, run and released. They do not choose pick locations.
- B. Correct: the directive carries a work order type, a work type of Pick, and a query that decides when it applies.
- C. Work templates define the pick and put operations that make up work and when work is split. The locations come from location directives.
- D. A work class limits the types of work a worker can process on a mobile device. It does not select locations.

Question 6: Quarantine on a failed inspection
Goods received on a purchase order must be inspected automatically when the product receipt posts. If the quality order fails validation, a quarantine order must be created automatically, and receipt posting must not be held up. Which configuration meets this?
- A. A quality association for purchase orders with Quarantine upon validation failure set to Yes and Event blocking set to None
- B. A quality association for purchase orders with Event blocking set to End
- C. A nonconformance type with the problem type set to Internal
- D. An item sampling that blocks the full inventory quantity of the tested reference
Answer: A
A quality association defines the transaction event that generates the quality order. Its Quarantine upon validation failure setting creates a quarantine order on a failed validation, and Event blocking set to None leaves the document free to process.
- A. Correct: the association triggers the quality order at the receipt event, creates the quarantine order on failure, and does not block the document.
- B. Event blocking set to End blocks processing of the document until the quality order is validated and closed, which contradicts the requirement, and it does not create a quarantine order.
- C. Nonconformances track nonconforming products and problem types. They do not automatically create quarantine orders when a quality order fails.
- D. Item sampling can block inventory for the quantity being tested, but blocking is not the same as creating a quarantine order.

Scenario 3: Lakeside Cycles Promises Delivery Dates
Domain: Order to cash (20-25%)
Lakeside Cycles sells accessories from stock and builds e-bikes to order from a bill of materials on a constrained assembly line. The company uses Planning Optimization on a recent release, and sales wants confirmed ship and receipt dates to appear when a sales line is saved.
Question 7: Delivery date method for build-to-order items
Which delivery date control method should Lakeside use for the build-to-order e-bikes?
- A. Sales lead time
- B. ATP
- C. CTP
- D. ATP + Issue margin
Answer: C
CTP is calculated through explosion and considers both material and capacity, which is what an assemble-to-order product with a constrained line needs.
- A. Sales lead time uses a default number of days and ignores stock, known demand and planned supply, so it cannot reflect line capacity.
- B. ATP looks at material availability and assumes infinite capacity. For an assembled item with no stock on hand, the ATP quantity is zero even when components and capacity could make it.
- C. Correct: the calculation checks components and the resources needed to make the item.
- D. This is ATP plus the item issue margin, so it carries the same infinite-capacity assumption as ATP.
Pattern: Method matched to the wrong item type
Question 8: Enabling standard CTP with Planning Optimization
Lakeside runs Planning Optimization and wants standard CTP to calculate confirmed ship and receipt dates in the background each time a sales line is saved, without anyone running planning. What must be enabled?
- A. Batch CTP as the delivery date control method
- B. ATP + Issue margin on the e-bike product
- C. The deprecated master planning engine in place of Planning Optimization
- D. The Near real-time CTP feature, after its prerequisite feature
Answer: D
Near real-time CTP calculates CTP dates in the background without blocking the interface or requiring a planning run, and it lets standard CTP delivery date control work with Planning Optimization. The prerequisite feature that queues and merges plan regeneration jobs must be turned on first.
- A. Batch CTP is the non-real-time option for Planning Optimization, and it is what you use when Near real-time CTP is not enabled.
- B. This changes the method back to a material-only calculation, which gives up the capacity-aware dates the scenario wants.
- C. The scenario states that Lakeside uses Planning Optimization. Switching to the deprecated engine abandons that requirement.
- D. Correct: it requires a recent enough release and the two features turned on in order in feature management.

Question 9: Price attributes across header and line
A pricing manager needs one rule that matches a customer attribute called Region and a sales line attribute called Package type. Which setup supports this in unified pricing management?
- A. Extend the price group list with extra criteria columns
- B. One header attribute group holding the customer attribute and one line attribute group holding the line attribute, both flagged as price attributes
- C. Two header attribute groups, one per attribute
- D. Assign both attributes to inventory dimension groups so they flow to each line
Answer: B
A pricing rule combines one header attribute group and one line attribute group. Customer attributes belong to the header scope and sales line attributes to the line scope, and attributes must be marked as price attributes and assigned in the pricing management parameters.
- A. Fixed pricing factors such as price groups and discount groups cannot be extended to add criteria, which is why price attributes exist.
- B. Correct: the header group carries Region, the line group carries Package type, and each rule uses one of each.
- C. Each rule allows one header group and one line group, and a line attribute does not belong in the header scope.
- D. Product attributes classify the product and are not connected to inventory dimensions, so inventory dimension groups are the wrong container.
Pattern: Right feature, wrong scope
Scenario 4: Alder Textiles Retires a Line and Fixes Costing
Domain: Design to retire (5-10%)
Alder Textiles is retiring its winter line while launching new products with size and color variants. Planners complain about order suggestions for dead products, and the costing manager wants cost separated at a finer level than the whole company.
Question 10: Removing obsolete products from planning
Master planning keeps suggesting orders for obsolete released products and variants. What is the documented way to take them out of master planning and BOM-level calculations?
- A. Assign them a product lifecycle state where Is active for planning is No
- B. Set the coverage code to Manual on each obsolete item
- C. Mark the purchase order process as Blocked on the lifecycle state they use
- D. Delete the bills of materials for the obsolete products
Answer: A
A product lifecycle state with Is active for planning set to No excludes the associated released products and variants from master planning and from BOM-level calculations.
- A. Correct: the lifecycle state is the documented mechanism, and Microsoft recommends it for obsolete products and variants.
- B. Manual coverage stops order suggestions for that item only. It does not remove the product from master planning or BOM-level calculations the way the lifecycle flag does.
- C. The enabled business processes policy controls whether processes such as purchasing can use the product. Planning inclusion is governed by the separate Is active for planning flag.
- D. Deleting bills of materials destroys master data that history and open orders may still need, and it is not how lifecycle management works.

Question 11: Cost tracking per bin location
The costing manager wants weighted average cost tracked separately for each bin location inside one warehouse. Which approach is supported?
- A. Select Financial inventory for the Location dimension in the storage dimension group
- B. Add location to a product dimension group
- C. Create virtual warehouses and select Financial inventory for the Warehouse dimension in the storage dimension group
- D. Change the item model group to moving average so cost follows location
Answer: C
Financial inventory cannot be enabled for the Location dimension. The documented alternative is to create virtual warehouses and track cost financially by warehouse.
- A. Location cannot be financially tracked, so this option does not exist.
- B. Product dimensions are configuration, size and color. Location is a storage dimension.
- C. Correct: each virtual warehouse then carries its own running average and settlements stay within the warehouse.
- D. The inventory model does not set the tracking level. Financial inventory on dimensions determines how finely cost is separated.
Pattern: Right feature, wrong scope
Scenario 5: Granite Tools Replenishes Fasteners
Domain: Forecast to plan (1-5%)
Granite Tools keeps a fast-moving fastener in a coverage group that uses the Min/Max coverage code. The Multiple order quantity is zero, and there is no other demand or supply for the item.
Question 12: Min/Max planned order quantity
The minimum is 20, the maximum is 30, and projected on-hand inventory is 8. What quantity does master planning propose as the planned order?
- A. 12
- B. 8
- C. 30
- D. 22
Answer: D
With Min/Max, master planning replenishes up to the maximum when predicted on-hand falls below the minimum, so the quantity is the maximum minus predicted on-hand: 30 minus 8 is 22.
- A. This is the minimum minus on-hand. Min/Max replenishes to the maximum level, not to the minimum.
- B. Eight is the current on-hand quantity, not a replenishment quantity.
- C. The maximum is the level to reach, not the order size, because eight units are already in stock.
- D. Correct: replenishment quantity equals maximum minus predicted on-hand.
Pattern: Half-applied arithmetic
Scenario 6: Granite Tools Rolls Back a Production Order
Domain: Plan to produce (1-5%)
A Granite Tools production order for a hand tool has the status Scheduled. The planner learns of a bill of materials change and wants the order back at Created so it can be estimated again.
Question 13: Reversing a production order status
When the planner reverses the status from Scheduled to Created, the system steps back through an intermediate status first. Which status is it, and what does that first step remove?
- A. Released, with only the status field changing
- B. Estimated, removing the scheduled dates and the capacity reservations
- C. Estimated, removing the BOM item consumption and derived orders
- D. No intermediate status; everything is removed in one step
Answer: B
Reversing from Scheduled first moves the order to Estimated, which removes the scheduled start and end dates and times, the capacity reservations from scheduling and the jobs created by job scheduling.
- A. Released comes after Scheduled in the lifecycle. A status-field-only change describes reversing from Released to Scheduled.
- B. Correct: the Scheduled to Estimated step clears scheduling results, and a later step to Created clears the estimation results.
- C. Those removals belong to the second step, from Estimated to Created, not the first.
- D. Microsoft documents the stepwise behavior: the system first changes the status to the one that immediately precedes the current one.
